Pinku was about 10 years old when he came to shuktara in 2003. He was deaf and first learned to sign when he was around the other boys and saw how they communicated. His signing improved through studying at the Deaf Unit at REACH School and interacting with the other students there.
He used to amuse us by doing somersaults around the flat and making squeaky sounds. And he would laugh a lot! Now a mature young man, Pinku is very quiet and more introverted. It has been fascinating to watch his technical mind develop; he loves doing mathematical calculations and drawing architectural designs.
Pinku is really helpful when it comes to getting the younger boys to school. He helps our driver to wake them up, get them ready and take them to their schools every morning.
On Sunday, he likes to go to the nearby saloon for a shave. When Pinku has control of the TV remote he prefers watching cartoons and music video channels.
