Bappa Singh
Bappa Singh came to shuktara on 30 January 2019. He’s a bright little boy and even though his legs and one arm don’t work very well he is very mobile.
Aakash Chaudri
Aakash has cerebral palsy and arrived at shuktara 28 March 2018. He has an infectious smile and wants to engage with everyone around him.
Subhash Kumar
Subhash loves to listen to Hindi music. He doesn't speak but understands what is happening around him.
Puja Bagh
Puja arrived in January 2016. Her rare smiles light up the room.
Guria Thakur
Guria is hearing. Non-verbal. With severe Cerebral Palsy. And obviously bright as a button!
Moni Mondal
Moni came to shuktara in September 2014 and lives at Lula Bari, our home for girls.
Muniya Dutta
When Muniya first arrived she was quite quiet and a little bit unsure, but after being at shuktara she is so much happier.
Ratan Jha
Ratan is our miracle child.
Prity Kundan
Prity has cerebral palsy and no use of her legs. She is probably the most intelligent girl at shuktara.
Lali Khatoon
Lali has cerebral palsy, she is really gentle with the other girls and enjoys caring for Puja, Guria and especially Prity.
She loves embroidery and needlework which is displayed in Lula Bari.
Tamina Naskar
Tamina came to shuktara in 2008. She has learning difficulties which can affect her behaviour however as Pappu says "she makes the girls' house really alive."
Vijay Roy
Vijay is Deaf.
He is fascinated by numbers and making lists.
Rajesh Roy
Rajesh is deaf and also has Usher Syndrome, which will lead to him losing his sight. He is the most gentle soul.
Ashok Chettri
Ashok has cerebral palsy, is non-verbal and loves Belinda Carlisle.
Raju Das
Raju is a baker extraordinaire. He loves Shuktara Cakes & Alain Cojean who started the project where he works.
Ramesh Das
Ramesh is seen by many to be a man of many strange ways, but to others they see a huge hidden intelligence.
Sumon Goswamy
It is really useful having Sumon around because he helps maintain a good routine: he always reminds everyone when the car is coming to take them to school, and remembers things like when the school fees have to be paid!
Bablu Lal
Bablu is the oldest member of the shuktara family.
Bapi Das
Bapi is known as the "super deaf kid" & came in January 2000 - our Millenium gift
Sunil Das
Everybody loves Sunil, and Sunil loves everybody.
Anna Das
Anna (which means 'brother' in Tamil) was born in Tamil Nadu, South India. He was partially deaf, epileptic and had learning and behaviour problems. He and Sunil started the shuktara family on 1st July 1999. Anna passed away on 21st October 2018.
These are the shuktara family members who are now living independently.
Pinku Das
Pinku is Deaf. He is really tall and is very architectural/mathematical in his thoughts and designs.
Ipshita Saha
Ipshita is Deaf and was the second girl to join our girls home in 2007. Her passion is her needlework. Ipshita now lives in the Punjab with her friend Ruchi.
Raja Mohan Das
Raja is an artist whose work is exhibited and sold to people all over the world.
Sanjay Sarkar
Sanjay came to shuktara in 2000 - he is Deaf and got married in 2015. He now has a daughter named Sumi and lives with his family in their own rented house.
Kedar Poddar
After finding his family in 2010 Kedar has been working various jobs in different places around Kolkata.
