Last weekend everyone at shuktara went on a seaside holiday to Mandarmani. Many thanks to Sanjib who made this wonderful event happen!
We often think of Sanjib Shaw as one of shuktara's angels.
Sanjib decided to take everyone from shuktara on holiday however for a few of our less mobile young people this is not easy. Not one to let a small issue like limited mobility stop him Sanjib and a group of his friends decided to donate six new wheelchairs to shuktara.
We are overwhelmed by their generosity and wish to thank Sanjib and his wonderful group of friends. We know that everyone will be able to enjoy their holiday and promise to post photos soon!
There is nothing Subhash likes more than listening to Hindi music from Bollywood films and this song is one of his favourites.
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To by Kumar Sanu from the film 1942: A Love Story
Sometimes social media can be a wonderful thing.
Shuktara has an account on Instagram @shuktara_homes and there we share various activities and stories from the day to day lives of our young people.
On sharing a short video of Subhash enjoying some Hindi film music, we received a video back from one of our followers and supporters Helen Downie a London based artist who has an account on Instagram @unskilledworker to say hello to Subhash and to say how happy she was to see him.
He was overjoyed to see this and you can see the happiness in his face.
Our friends Emma and Simon who visited Lula Bari last week, also spent an afternoon at our boys home. Emma was here on the day that Ratan came, so for her it was very emotional to see him again. The moment he was brought into the house in 2012 was a particularly poignant memory for her.
Emma brought her partner Simon with her this time and it's always interesting to see our homes and young people through someone else's eyes.
In Simon's stunning photos below you can see that he has a great eye and it's no coincidence that his name on Instagram is @polyperspective.
It was in September last year (2016) that Pappu Mishra received the call about a young man with cerebral palsy found on the street alone. Taken by the police to a nursing home, Pappu went and found him in a room tied to a bed and arranged for him to be transferred to shuktara immediately.
Life has changed for Subhash Kumar. He now has a name and home!

You can't beat transportation shuktara style.
Every day at this time of year Subhash and Ratan are taken out of the cold house and up on to the roof to enjoy the sunshine.
They get rubbed over with mustard oil and then bathed and fed.
We believe in giving them the best and they deserve it!
When Sanjib came on 23rd September with food for both of our homes, he promised to come back with clothes for the girls and the boys closer to Durga Puja.
Just check out our latest boy Subhash here who has received his first gift of a new shirt! Below are all the boys with Sanjib and a photo of Muniya and Lali with their gifts of perfume. Everyone looks very happy.
Thank you to Sanjib Shaw for being so generous, and Happy Puja!
